Can’t find a course that fits your schedule? Looking for instruction
for a group of friends, family or coworkers? Wilderness Outings can
arrange private instruction for individuals or groups in almost any
skill area, including Rock Climbing, Navigation, and Backpacking.
Private Guiding and Instruction can be done at many locations throughout Southern California (the Sierra Nevada, too!), at a time and place that fits your busy schedule. Itineraries can be customized to your interests and experience. With Private Instruction, you have wide flexibility in the scheduling of start and finish times- you have us for the whole day! (Typical days run from 8 am to 4:30 pm.)
Generally, all you will need to provide is your personal clothing, water, snacks & lunch during the days. Wilderness Outings provides the following equipment for our One Day Outings:
• Rock Climbing: harnesses, helmets, climbing shoes
• Navigation: maps, compasses, GPS units
• Day hiking: navigation equipment, water treatment, first aid kits

Private Guiding or Instruction: Individuals or Small Groups
For individuals or small groups (up to 10 participants). If you are registering yourself, use our secure On-line form. If you are organizing a small group, you may register by downloading our Private Group Registration Form and return it by fax or mail with your deposit.

* The above rates apply to all persons present, with any level of participation. ‘Shared’ use of an individual’s registration is not allowed. Non-participating Observers may be present during outings at no additional charge. Staff:participant ratios will include observers. All Observers must complete the Participant Information Form, and the Assumption of Risk Form. Pricing is based on staff:participant ratio of 1:5- some activities or courses may require additional guides at additional cost. Multi-day courses or trips including backcountry camping may involve additional equipment and support. See section below titled ‘Multi-Day trips and Outfitting Services’ for more information.
Large Private Groups
For Schools, Business Groups, etc; 11 or more persons
Wilderness Outings can provide customized programs for your group in any type or combination of activities. Contact us for more information about pricing and options.
Private Scout Group Outings and Courses
Wilderness Outings can provide a customized outdoor skills outings and courses for your Scout Troop, including skills such rock climbing, backpacking or navigation. Our educational handouts also provide unique support to this option that students can keep.
Merit Badge Courses: Wilderness Outings is registered with the BSA as a provider of Rock Climbing Merit Badge trainers.
If you are organizing an Outing or Course for a Scout Group, complete the Scout Group Registration Form and return it to us by fax or mail with your deposit.
Scout Group Daily Instructional Rates
In an effort to support Scouting and families, Wilderness Outings offers private instruction for Scout Troops at reduced rates.
Child rates: $75 per child
Adult rates: $125 per adult
Minimum Group size: 10 persons
Maximum Group size: 18 persons (for general climbing), 12 persons (for Merit Badge training)
Discounted rates may be applied to one Outing per troop, per calendar year.
Child rates apply to children 16 or under.
The above rates apply to all persons present, with any level of
participation. 'Shared' use of an individual's registration is not allowed.
Non-participating Observers may be present during outings at no additional
charge. Staff:participant ratios will include observers. All Observers must
complete the Participant Information Form, and the Assumption of Risk Form.
Typical staff: participant ratios for most courses are 1:5- some activities
or courses (i.e. Merit Badge courses, as mandated by the BSA) may require
additional guides at additional cost. Contact Wilderness Outings for more
information.
Multi-day courses or trips including backcountry camping may involve
additional equipment and support. See section above titled 'Multi-Day trips
and Outfitting Services' for more information.
Multi-day trips & Outfitting Services
For multi-day Outings such as backpacking trips, Wilderness Outings can provide Outfitting Services including group camping gear, some meals, and backcountry camping permits and reservations (if applicable). Each person is responsible for their own personal equipment, including clothing, backpacks, and snacks and lunches (we provide extensive assistance in selecting and acquiring these items). Wilderness Outings provides Outfitting Service at the rate of $20 per person, per day.
Outfitting Service includes:
• Trailhead permits and backcountry campsite reservations
• Dinners and Breakfasts during trip
• Shelters, tent systems
• Group cooking equipment: stoves, fuel, commissary equipment
• Water treatment equipment
• First aid and medical supplies
(Note: Outfitting Service is in addition to Guiding Rates. No pro-rating is available for clients bringing any of the above equipment.)
Campground reservations: If applicable, Wilderness Outings can make campground reservations are billed at actual cost. (Note: some campgrounds are reserved up to one year in advance! Early registration can be critical to reserve the dates of your choice.)
