San Jacinto Backpacking
Offered between May and September.
Note: this itinerary is highly variable subject to change according to weather, experience and interests of the group, and many other unpredictable events!
Sample Intinerary
Day 1: We meet at the Palm Springs Tramway, and will spend time reviewing the necessary equipment for backpacking, and how to properly pack your pack. Then, we’re jump onto the spectacular Tram, which climbs from the desert floor to the cool mountains at 8,000 feet- a truly incredible ride! Once at the top, we begin our hike of about 2-3 miles into the San Jacinto mountains. This backpacking itinerary is geared especially for kids and families, and spends plenty of time learning about the environment and the technical skills of backpacking and navigation. At our campsite, we set up tents and enjoy a dinner provided by Wilderness Outings, and then rest our heads under a brilliant sky of stars.
Day 2: After a hearty breakfast provided by Wilderness Outings, we will spend time exploring and learning about the San Jacinto mountains, or possibly take a short day hike to a nearby point of interest. Our hike out will once again take us to the Tram Station, with a spectacular descent. We usually return to the vehicles around 3 pm, and after spending some time organizing gear and debriefing the trip, depart around 4 pm or so.
What to bring
