Backcountry navigation is one of the most important basic skills you
can have on your adventures — without it, you’re as good
as lost!
Wilderness Outings navigational courses are field-based (not in a store or parking lot), where you will learn navigation skills in the outdoors, in real ‘backcountry’ conditions. After a short orientation at the trailhead, you will hit the trail and learn to move through the backcountry quickly and efficiently.
No matter if you are out to learn the basics of map orientation and bearings, or how to use the high-tech gadgetry of the GPS, Wilderness Outings has a course for you.
Navigation courses are offered throughout Southern California in locations such as Mission Trails Regional Park (near San Diego), Santiago Oaks Regional Park (near Orange County), and Malibu Creek State Park (near Los Angeles).
