If you have done a little backpacking, and are looking for guidance from professionals and the company of other backpackers, our Trekking Adventures are for you.
In addition to a wonderful adventure, you will also learn some of the finer ‘tricks of the trade’ from our experienced backpacking guides. All of our Trekking Adventures place a strong emphasis on the use of the latest gear and equipment, especially the use of Ultralight Equipment and Technique that will take pounds off your back, and put more fun at your feet!
We will have a variety of equipment for you to use and learn from, or feel free to bring whatever you own, and learn along the way. We have a wide variety of equipment to experiment with, from lightweight tents and tarps to all kinds of stoves: white gas, butane, and ultralight alcohol stoves. You will be directly involved in meal planning and packing, usually in 2–3 person ‘cook groups’, where you will learn how to pack the proper amount of food, and prepare it in the field. Along the trail, you will have the best opportunity to learn and refine yournavigational skills, using map and compass (and possibly GPS). Routefinding is a key part of the trip as well- expect to be directly involved with the decision-making process, with your Guide to help develop your judgement.
The Pacific Crest Trail Trek is a three day backpack outing designed to give you a taste of the west’s premier long distance scenic trail. The trek will follow the particularly dramatic ‘Desert Divide’ section, as it climbs high into the cool, pine tree covered San Jacinto mountains (above Idyllwild) with incredible vistas along the way. (Typically offered May-August) More Details
The Joshua Tree Desert Trek is a three day backpack outing that covers more miles than our Beginning course, and explores more of the inner and outer reaches of Joshua Tree National Park. Intended for those with some prior backpacking experience, you will learn how to refine your systems and be guided on itineraries that are unique and fascinating. (Typically offered October-May) More Details
